COMMUNITY ACTION’S FREE “VITA” TAX ASSISTANCE STARTS JANUARY 25, THROUGH APRIL 15!

The Montgomery County Department of Health & Human Services’ Community Action Agency's free VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) program is a volunteer-supported service helping community members who cannot afford professional tax assistance. Individuals with low-to-moderate incomes—under $49,000 per year- receive FREE help to complete and electronically file their taxes. All services are provided by trained, IRS-certified VITA volunteers and staff through a partnership among the IRS, the City of Gaithersburg’s Bank On initiative and Family Services, the City of Rockville, and the Community Action Agency. WHAT TO BRING ? BE READY: IRS requirements help prevent fraud and identity theft. The IRS does not allow VITA sites to prepare taxes without required documentation.

· Government Issued ID (i.e. Driver’s License, Passport, Age of Majority Card)

· Social Security Card, or Individual Tax Identification Notices (ITIN) for each member of your family. (If you do not have ITINs, we will help you obtain one).

· All W-2 Forms, 1098s, 1099s, and other documents re: income

· If filing jointly, your spouse must be present

· Copy of prior year tax return (if applicable)

· 1099 Forms (if applicable)

· Statement of annual child care expenses prepared by provider and their tax ID (Social Security or Employer ID number)

· For direct deposit, proof of an existing bank account, including routing numbers (such as checkbook, or a bank statement, or we can help you open a savings account).

HAVE SPECIAL NEEDS? The IRS has a special exception granted to Community Action Agency to assist elderly, homeless and disabled customers in Montgomery County with tax preparation, working with case managers. If interpretation services, accommodations, or assistance to obtain ID or social security documentation is required, please alert the scheduler when making the appointment.
